Let’s Play ‘Hunt the Archive’

For staff and research postgrads we are planning to fully migrate the contents of your mailbox including the archive – but to do so we must be able to ‘see’ the archive – please read the following message and take the appropriate action:

Colleagues,
we are continuing to progress the migration of staff mail to Office 365 and are still on target for the major switchover date of 9th January – (think you might have missed communications?? – catch up on dMail blog http://blog.dundee.ac.uk/office365/)
Our plan includes the migration of staff and research postgraduate mail, contacts, calendar and archives and for this to be fully in place by the change date. However, we can only move the archives we can see on your Home (normally H:) drive – if your archive is not currently in the right place NOW is a good time to move it.

Accessibility in Office 365

There are differing options available depending on your preferences. The most popular accessible options are detailed below. Advice is available from ICS Disability Support and can be contacted through the Service Desk

Accessibility for Blind, Low Vision and keyboard users

The light version of Outlook Web App is optimized for accessibility, including for users who are blind or who have low vision and keyboard users. The light version provides fewer features than the regular version and is sometimes faster. To turn on light outlook web app feature see http://help.outlook.com/en-us/140/bb899566.aspx or contact ICS Service Desk

Own client

It is likely you can continue to use your own preferred email client, although you may wish to use start using Outlook 2007/2010 (PC) or Outlook 2011 (Mac).

Keyboard access

Keyboard shortcuts – can be found at http://help.outlook.com/en-us/140/bb899480.aspx

Increase the Font Size in Dialog Boxes

You can override the type (font) settings in Internet Explorer, which is useful if you have limited or low vision. You can override the default font settings, and also font sizes specified in Web pages. See:

http://help.outlook.com/en-us/140/bb899611.aspx

Can’t log in?

Some few users are reporting that they cannot get logged into Office 365 – please log this with the Service Desk and we will investigate – this is a key purpose of the preview to identify issues and resolve them before Go-Live. Currently there are 46,513 UoD users set up and we are only just starting on the 20,000 applicant accounts……

UoD Drop Box – FAQs

To make it easy for users to send and receive large attachments including presentations, images and long documents, we have developed UoD Drop Box. This provides an alternative means of sharing files larger than 25MB which cannot be sent by email.

Where can I find UoD Drop Box?

Latest News

This morning University SMT agreed that we may proceed with the implementation of Office 365 for all students and staff during the weekend of 6-9 January 2012. We are launching a preview of the new webmail system today and asking users to familiarise themselves with layout etc.

For staff and research postgraduates mail will be migrated into your new mailbox – this is a continuing process and will be completed at the switchover.

Students will be given migration tools and guides to assist with migrating their mail.

Pilot Testing
As a taster you can now access the pilot of the new university email provider Office 365 using web access:
http://www.outlook.com/dundee.ac.uk
The new system uses your normal university username and password.
For example, if your name is John David Janes and your email address is j.d.janes@dundee.ac.uk your new Office 365 username will be jdjanes
Web access is fully featured and provides a nearly identical experience to Microsoft Outlook, the desktop client for Office 365.
Please be aware that during the pilot phase your inbox will not be completely up to date due to the ongoing migration of data. Please use the preview period to set up your mailbox including Rules, Security Permissions and Signatures as these will persist during the changeover.
Be aware that although technically you may send mail from Office 365 you should not regard this as a live mailbox – mail sent to dundee.ac.uk addresses may send to other mailboxes within Office 365 but, as these mailboxes may not yet be monitored or accessed until the changeover, the person you have emailed may not reply or even be aware you have contacted them.

We are interested in your feedback. You can contact the project team via this blog
