Accessibility in Office 365

There are differing options available depending on your preferences. The most popular accessible options are detailed below. Advice is available from ICS Disability Support and can be contacted through the Service Desk

Accessibility for Blind, Low Vision and keyboard users

The light version of Outlook Web App is optimized for accessibility, including for users who are blind or who have low vision and keyboard users. The light version provides fewer features than the regular version and is sometimes faster. To turn on light outlook web app feature see http://help.outlook.com/en-us/140/bb899566.aspx or contact ICS Service Desk

Own client

It is likely you can continue to use your own preferred email client, although you may wish to use start using Outlook 2007/2010 (PC) or Outlook 2011 (Mac).

Keyboard access

Increase the Font Size in Dialog Boxes

You can override the type (font) settings in Internet Explorer, which is useful if you have limited or low vision. You can override the default font settings, and also font sizes specified in Web pages. See:

Where are we with dMail?

The project team has been making progress with the technical implementation of Office 365 but there are still a few issues which need to be fully resolved. We have updated the project plan and the revised date for the switch to Office 365 is now likely to be 6-9 Jan 2012 subject to final sign off by University senior management. The plan is to switch both staff and students during this period and to have the dMail service fully operational by the start of semester 2.

We are aware that the current size of the students mailbox is insufficient and to reduce the impact of the delay in switching to Office 365, the student mailbox quota will be automatically increased to 100MB with effect from Tuesday 11th October.

Launch of UoD Drop Box

As promised in an earlier post we are now ready to introduce an alternative to sending large attachments through the email system – UoD Drop Box

This new facility makes it easy to send and receive large files, documents, images etc – there are a number of user guides on the site to help you – why not give it a try?

External users may only send to dundee.ac.uk addresses

Size does Matter!!

One issue which may arise is the size of individual messages – in the new system the maximum message size is 25MB – and there may be messages in your existing mailbox which are larger than this which cannot be moved across. To check if you will be affected by this it is simple to check on the Groupwise client:

  • On the top toolbar > Tools > Check Mailbox Size (this opens a graphical display of your mailbox)
  • Click the Size column and sort the mail in descending order
  • Messages larger than 26214400 cannot be migrated
  • Consider saving attachments to your network drive and/or deleting old messages which are no longer required
