Dear CASTLE colleagues
This is the first in an occasional (I’m not going to say ‘regular’ as that will just be a hostage to fortune!) email for all CASTLE colleagues to keep us informed on current goings-on in the CASTLE and opportunities for engagement with activities around the sector.
Spreading the word about CASTLE
Letting everyone know we exist, and who’s in the CASTLE, is a key activity for the summer and into the new academic year. In addition to our recent front page article on the launch of CASTLE in Highlighter newsletter, there will also be a piece in the next issue of eContact. There is a CASTLE ‘outpost’ in the main library, next to the InfoZone, with desks and chairs, a pc, soft seating area, shelving – and a pop-up CASTLE banner (see attached). We can use this space in a number of ways, not least as an area to promote CASTLE activities and to capitalise on the significant footfall of students and staff through this area of the library.
Our online presence is also growing through our generic email address firstname.lastname@example.org , the website www.dundee.ac.uk/castle and the CASTLE blog which went live today! Check it out at castleblog.dundee.ac.uk. We also have our own CASTLE organisation on My Dundee to allow us to share resources.
I will be writing directly to Deans, and College and School Secretaries, and the DUSA Exec to spread the word about CASTLE while also flagging up its key elements, allowing your respective individual brands to be retained and strengthened under the CASTLE banner. LLC liaison teams also have an opportunity to take information on CASTLE activities direct to the heart of School business, so do send information on your respective current activities to email@example.com , marked for LLC Liaison, where it can be collated and then forwarded to liaison teams in advance of School Boards.
Let me know of any other ideas you have for spreading the word about CASTLE … and if you would like to be involved in the CASTLE marketing & publicity meeting which will be held next month then get in touch.
Who’s up to What in the CASTLE?
DUSA President, Iain MacKinnon, presented a short video scripted by ASC staff, which has been developed jointly by DUSA and CASTLE for the new Dundee University phone app which will be released shortly. The video aims to support student applicants as they move to a university from a school environment.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rxgw-fkAfWc&feature=youtu.be … and watch this space for more videos as a result of a collaboration between ASC and DUSA TV.
Personal Development Planning (PDP) review group established, involving representation from Careers, PGLA, DUSA and academic reps from each college.
The LLC have purchased LyndaCampus and will get full access to all courses and supporting resources for all staff and students. Learn to do almost anything with the online video tutorials! www.lynda.comThis resource will be fully accessible from 1st September but you can have access now under the trial login. Please contact me directly for the login details.
