Prototype Energy Autonomous Studio

The ‘Energy Autonomous Studio’ is a Net-Zero Low-Energy, demonstrator building prototype. Located in the University Botanical Gardens, this self-build project was developed by the Department of Architecture’s Macro Micro, MArch unit and MSc student research projects in Civil Engineering, Physics and Applied Computing. The prototype was conceived as a ‘live’ test-bed to monitor the environmental and technical performance of an energy self-sufficient building, understand user behaviour in relation to energy consumption and develop integrated intelligent controls to reduce energy use and manage renewable energy generation, storage and export.
