Strategies for quantifying and controlling free living nematode populations and consequent damage by tobacco rattle virus to improve potato yield and quality.

The project seeks to improve the sustainable production of potato by a) developing species-specific molecular diagnostics for the prevalent virus-vector trichodorid nematode species in the UK; b) evaluating the efficacy of alternative management strategies to control free-living nematodes and c) identify gene(s) that confer potential resistance to tobacco rattle virus in potatoes to be used in downstream breeding programs.
