Dundee and Me: How the City Shapes our Mood

Fhionna, Eddie Small of Humanities, UoD, and Robin Sloan of Computer Arts, Abertay, have been awarded a Wellcome Trust Public Engagement grant for the project ‘Dundee and Me: How the City Shapes our Moods’. We will explore links between our local environment and our emotions with groups of school children and mental health service users. The project will finish with a performance and exhibition of computer arts, poetry, creative writing, art, and performances.

Predicting emotional distress in Scotland

Our research with NHS 24 on environmental predictors of emotional distress and suicide rates in Scotland has been published by the Richard Benjamin Trust, and can be accessed here: http://www.richardbenjamintrust.co.uk/

Fhionna appointed at honorary Psychology Advisor for NHS Tayside

I was recently appointed on an honorary 2 year contract to act as Psychology Advisor to the Tayside Multiagency Suicide Review Group. I will work with the group to develop a database that will inform case reviews and provide a rich research resource.

Meta-analysis on stress and sexual signalling published today

Our meta-analysis on the effects of stress on sexual signalling across species was published as an invited review today at Behavioral Ecology. We found that there were no consistent effects of stress on the expression of sexual signals, with the exception of a detrimental effect of stress on opposite sex preferences.
