Enhancing Accessibility: Introducing our new Assistive Hardware Collection!

We’re excited to announce a valuable addition to our library resources: the new Assistive Hardware Collection! With support from Student Funding, Disability Services, and Digital Technology Services (DTS), we’re committed to making the learning experience more inclusive and supportive for everyone. This collection of adaptive tools and technology will be available to borrow across all library sites, designed to support students and staff with their ergonomic and accessibility needs.

Where to Find the Assistive Hardware Collection

To make these resources as accessible as possible, we’ve organised them across our various library locations:

Main Library Short Loan Collection entrance

  • Main Library: The Assistive Hardware Collection is housed in the Short Loan Room.
  • Other Library Sites: At each library site, simply visit the Infozone desk and ask for the available items.

What’s in the Collection?

To launch this collection, each library site is offering a core selection of ergonomic and assistive tools. Here’s what you can currently find:

  • Vertical Mouse: A more ergonomic option that reduces strain on the wrist and forearm.
  • Laptop Riser: Ideal for elevating screens to eye level, promoting better posture while working.
  • Book/Document Rest: Keeps documents at an easy-to-read angle, perfect for studying or research.
  • GoPro Hero 10: Perfect for capturing hands-free video footage, whether for academic projects or accessible documentation.
  • Universal Charger: For those on the go, this charger accommodates various devices, ensuring you’re always powered up.
  • Arm Rest: Helps support forearm positioning, promoting comfort and reducing strain during extended use.

And this is just the beginning! Over the coming months, we’ll be expanding our collection with additional items, such as:

  • Headphones: For focused study and accessible listening.
  • Ergonomic Keyboards: To reduce wrist strain during typing.
  • Foot Rests: For added comfort, especially during longer study sessions.

How to Borrow from the Assistive Hardware Collection

All items in this collection can be borrowed for a 7-day period. Here are a few loan details to keep in mind:

  • Loan Period: Items are issued for up to 7 days.
  • No Fines: There’s no penalty for late returns; however, your library account will be temporarily blocked until you return the item. This ensures fair access for everyone in need of these tools.
  • Non-Renewable and Non-Requestable: As demand may be high, these items cannot be renewed or reserved in advance.

We hope the Assistive Hardware Collection will enhance your comfort and productivity. This collection reflects our commitment to fostering a supportive learning environment for all students and staff. Whether you need to improve your ergonomic setup, capture a unique perspective with the GoPro, or borrow a universal charger on a busy day, we’re here to help make your study experience a little easier.
