Whether you’re staying in Dundee or heading off to explore other parts of the UK and Ireland, the SCONUL Access scheme is your golden ticket to discovering new libraries, study spaces, and a treasure trove of books and journals.
What is SCONUL Access?
SCONUL Access is a fantastic scheme that lets you use study spaces and borrow print books from other libraries that are part of the network. Imagine having access to not just your own university’s library, but many others across the country! Here’s how you can make the most of it:
Step 1: Sign Up
First things first, you need to sign up for SCONUL Access. It’s super simple:
- Fill in the SCONUL Access form here.
- Wait for Processing: We’ll process your application here at the library. Waiting times can vary, so if you’re in a hurry or have any questions, drop us a line at llc@dundee.ac.uk.
Step 2: Get Approved
Once your application is processed, you’ll receive an approval email with all the details you need. This email is your golden ticket, so keep it safe!
Step 3: Plan Your Visit
Before you head out to your chosen library, check their website for opening hours and any specific conditions. Some libraries might have health and safety procedures, or they might need you to bring a passport-sized photo. Make sure to take your approval email and your home institution’s ID card with you.
Step 4: Enjoy the Benefits
When you arrive at the library, show your documents, and you’ll be issued a library card. Now you can explore the new library, borrow books, and enjoy the fresh study spaces until your SCONUL Access membership expires.
Why Use SCONUL Access?
- Variety of Resources: Access books and journals that might not be available at your home library.
- Different Study Spaces: Sometimes a change of scenery is all you need to boost your productivity.
- Flexibility: Whether you’re on a summer trip or staying with friends in another city, you can continue your studies without a hitch.
So why not make the most of your winter break? With SCONUL Access, the world (or at least the libraries in the UK and Ireland) is your oyster. Dive into new collections, find the perfect study spot, and keep your academic momentum going.
