*Update* 29/07/2024

This project will now start around the middle of August. We will keep you updated. Thank you for your cooperation and support.

We are excited to announce that from July 30th/31st, work will commence on replacing the carpet floor tiles in the Atrium and stairwell landings of the Main Library. This essential maintenance work, funded by our partners in Estates and Campus Services (ECS), aims to enhance our facilities’ aesthetic appeal and safety. The entire project is expected to take about two weeks to finish.

Scope of Work

The floor tile replacement will encompass the following areas:

  • The Atrium
  • The InfoZone and Request shelving area
  • The Landings off the NE and SE Stairwells

Despite the extensive scope of this project, critical areas of our facility will remain operational to minimise disruption:

  • Main Entrance to the Library: This will remain open as usual, allowing uninterrupted access to library services.
  • Cafe: The cafe will be closed for stocktaking on July 29th but will open up again from August 1st andcontinue to serve visitors throughout the duration of this project.

Temporary Relocation of Services

During the project, the following temporary adjustments will be made:

  • Library InfoZone Enquiry Desk: This desk will be relocated to the foyer area for a few days to ensure users can access the enquiry services without interruption.
  • DTS Service Desk: The DTS service desk will temporarily move to one of the booths in the GB area (near the ‘snake’ of PCs) for a few days.

Safety Measures and Accessibility

During the tile replacement, the flooring team will work in sections to ensure a walkway through the atrium is always available. This careful planning will maintain safe and accessible routes for all users. Furthermore, while the tiles on the landings are being replaced, Estates and Campus Services (ECS) have assured us that these areas will remain usable as fire escape routes if necessary.

We appreciate your patience and understanding as we undertake this crucial project to improve our facilities. The new flooring will significantly enhance the look and feel of our spaces, making them more inviting and functional for everyone.

Thank you for your cooperation and support.
