Fashion has always been a big part of DJCAD’s Degree Show. Each May, Dundee’s fashion pack rejoices as, year-after-year, the work of the students provide endless inspiration (from textiles and jewellery to fine art and architecture), while the annual opening event provides a stylish set of guests worthy of any fashion week street style photographer.
Arguably one of the city’s most anticipated events, the opening night provides an excuse to really dress up (you won’t be alone in the style stakes) while providing people the opportunity to showcase their own individualism with their most creative looks (let’s face it, it’s an art show – so there will always be something wacky on display, whether it’s student work or your own outfit).
But it’s more than just a giant exhibition of fashionable people and stylish artwork. It’s a visual feast for the eyes, an atmosphere that bubbles like a volcano ready to erupt at any moment. It’s a feeling, a sense of acceptance and joy, the outdoor-indoor fusion event marking the beginning of summer, a season full of hope and adventure before the next season of new beginnings.
Of course, this year things look different due to the UK’s ongoing lockdown conditions. Degree Show in its original form was cancelled and in its place (two weeks later than planned) we have the Graduate Showcase, an online event which – just like its predecessor – recognises the hard work and dedication, the ideas and creations of final year students. We hope that you will join us in celebrating with our staff and students by attending the virtual event this Friday evening. One thing you can do for our students to help them celebrate at the event? Raise a glass, and wear your very best outfit.
Share your Graduate Showcase look with us and our students using #DJCADStyle and #DressUpFriday.
