The efforts and successes of student volunteers were celebrated last month at the University of Dundee Student Volunteering Awards.
The awards are designed to celebrate student volunteering in general and also to reward specific volunteers for their efforts. Nominations were received from students, staff and external voluntary organisations both in Dundee and further afield. They were handed out by Vice-Principal (Learning and Teaching) Karl Leydecker.
Another group of students that were celebrated were those who take part in the Dundee Plus Award.
Dundee Plus is a personal skills development programme which recognises and adds value to the activities students do outside of their degree. The programme helps them to reflect upon the skills they are developing, communicate their achievements, and helps them to map out their career pathway.
This year’s overall winner was Rebecca Baird. The third year English student was last year’s editor of the Magdalen. If that wasn’t enough juggling, she also works as an Optical Assistant in Tesco. She said, “Dundee Plus helps people get recognition for the work they do outside their studies. I was delighted to find out I could get credit for the work I do outside of my studies.”
