Out and About in Dundee

This week I have had two whole days off work which is a rarity these days and so I decided to make the most of it and be as productive as possible!  My boyfriend and I compiled a list of things we want to do and places we want to eat at during the summer and throughout the rest of our time here and set off this week to get a start on it!

On Saturday we got up bright and early and ended up having lunch in the Dundee Contemporary Arts (DCA) which is one of my favourite places to visit and yet this was our first time eating in- I was very pleasantly surprised! With a free afternoon ahead of us we decided to head off on a walk and came across some of the Oor Wullie statues being showcased throughout Dundee this summer- the Oor Wullie Bucket Trail!  You may or may not be familiar with the comic book character but he’s a bit of an icon here in Dundee and so, in the name of charity, over 50 hand-painted and designed 4ft statues have been spread out across the city for the public to find!  Our afternoon then became a bit of an adventure, walking 10km in total around town and down by the waterfront, snapping pictures of Wullie as we came across them.  There’s still loads I haven’t seen but here’s a picture of some of my favourites from that day:

That night we visited the DCA again and saw an Italian film called Subbura which I loved!  Was so intense, fast-paced, unpredictable and beautiful, with the M83 soundtrack suiting it perfectly.  The DCA is probably one of the best places to visit as a student as it has it all- arty, independent films as well as your regular blockbusters, art exhibitions, a bar and a restaurant.  We already visit each new art exhibition but we are making it our mission to see more of these films that we might not otherwise be aware of.  All in all, a fantastic day out in Dundee!

A couple of days ago we also went for brunch in a lovely cafe called Pacamara, which was also my first time visiting, and I definitely was not disappointed.  This was possibly the prettiest meal I’ve ever had in such a great atmosphere, definitely worth a visit!  They change their brunch menu fairly often so we will definitely be returning to try out their new creations.
