Hey there! 10494583_597196017063899_5734693887493358887_n

My name is Natasha and I am studying Primary Teaching at the University of Dundee. Today is my first day living in my new flat, in a new city, surrounded by new people.

Last night I drove from my home town up to Dundee with my lovely big sister having had to say goodbye to a town and a home I have lived in my whole life. Though it was crazy emotional I was excited to start the journey up to my new flat and new life in Dundee.

When my sister and I arrived we unpacked some (too much) of my stuff and then had to do a very (adult) thing…The Food Shop.

I have never been one to shy away from a challenge. However, the daunting prospect of having to do my own food shop for the first time stressed me out (probably more than it should have). Going around the supermarket the two mains objectives in my head were –

  1. Buy it healthy
  2. Buy it cheap

This st14182321_1068555026584833_490213545_nrategy was great…although I refused to compromise with myself on sweetcorn (Green Giant Sweetcorn is not up for negotiation!). If you have never tried it then you must. Now.

After I had reasonably filled up my trolley and was satisfied with what I had bought we headed for the checkouts. Now I don’t know about you but I always dread hearing how much I have to pay, especially when it is significantly more than I had anticipated. On this occasion I was not too shocked, thought my bank balance did take a little hit. But I guess if it’s between saving money and food; food will always win.

After we were back in the flat with all the shopping and luggage unpacked I felt a bit stuck. What am I suppose to do now?

I fortunately, at that moment, had a message from someone who is going to be on my course asking to make plans for freshers. This automatically put me in a better mood as I know I have so much to look forward too.

Flat

So, my first night at the flat was a successful one and I woke up feeling quite at home in my flat. That is until I dropped my phone down the toilet. But all you have to do in that situation is laugh at yourself. Fortunately it is getting fixed and the memory is getting updated (hallelujah!).

Overall I have settled into my flat well and I am enjoying being up in Dundee. I am especially excited for Freshers and for my University course to start.

Signing off,

Natasha.

    1. This was a really fun read and so personal, it’s put my mind at ease a little when thinking about moving out and starting uni. I loved all of the silly details, like about the sweetcorn! I literally laughed out loud. I hope that you have an amazing time at uni with lots of good times on the journey ahead!

Hey Natasha! So glad day 1 went well! My older sister studied in Dundee and loved it!! I’m sure you will too! A tip for your shopping, get some of the meat packs from muscle foods or even a local butcher (there used to be a good one in the welfare shopping centre) then portion in and stick it in the freezer, this is much less expensive in the long run than supermarkets and usually better quality! Tins etc, stock up at aldi or lidl! I agree with you on the sweet corn tho!!
Take care and good luck with Freshers!! For that stick up in paracetamol, Iran bru and bacon rolls!! U will need it!
