Welcome to a new blog post!
Over the past week I have been starting to get into the festive spirit even with the dark nights and looming assignments.
Last Friday I was able to attend the light switch on in Dundee. Not only was it a great evening with Christmas songs playing and a festive market, I also had great company and I was able to get to know people more. Sadly the fireworks had to be cancelled due to weather conditions. However, the hot chocolate more than made up for it.
Today was a day that I had been looking forward to for a while – Decorating the flat! One of my favourite things to do at this time of year is to put up all the Christmas decorations. Growing up it was always something I looked forward to doing with my family. However, this year I am on my own and I thought it wouldn’t be as special. But along come my two friends who came round to my flat to help. It made me realise how truly blessed I am to have friends that are like family to share these moments with.
Another great part of today was celebrating thanksgiving with one of my friends who is over studying from America. I was lucky enough to be able to share this dinner with a great group of people and to share in a different cultural tradition.
With my flat now feeling festive and working my way through my assignments I am beginning to realise how close it is for me going home and getting to be around my family. I cannot believe how fast this semester has gone and looking back at everything I have done and the friends I have made just makes me even more excited to carry on at University.
I know how blessed I am with what I have and the people I can call friends, especially at this time of year. So I am sending a prayer out for anyone who is struggling with stress, illness or loss and I would ask anyone reading this if they could to. One of the great things about this season is being able to spread hope and joy.
