For those starting school again for their final year it can be a daunting time. Been turning up to school most mornings for as long as you can remember and now, suddenly, it’s almost over and you think, “What next?”

At least, I remember that’s how I felt this time four years ago. One thing I did know was that I wanted to stay in education and so going to university seemed like the obvious option. But where? How? And what do I want to study?

I’d say it’s normal to feel like you have a million questions at this stage and the best way to find answers is to get out there and find them. Universities everywhere hold open days around this time of year, letting prospective students and applicants visit and get a feel for the uni vibe, from the campus to the courses.

Here at UoD our first open day has just taken place, with thousands of people descending on campus to see what Dundee Uni has to offer. And being the Best Scottish University for 2 consecutive years, there’s a lot!

Campus green, the heart of campus, is where the buzz is. Once you’ve got your goodie bag and taken your pic sitting on the giant deck chair – and put it on Instagram of course #UoD – you can head to the marquee and find all the info you could possibly want about the courses on offer. It’s also the perfect opportunity to meet the friendly staff and get tips for your application! Be sure to take a shiny new prospectus too!

This is also the perfect chance to go on a campus tour, led by existing students, giving you a realistic insight into student life in Dundee. A strong point for UoD is the compact campus, meaning you’re never too far from anything, whether that’s your 9:00am lecture, the gym, or a drink at Scotland’s No.1 student union.

Not forgetting being able to see the on-campus accommodation, which is guaranteed to all first year students with over 130 flats between the Heathfield and Belmont complexes.

It was an open day that made me choose Dundee. The universities all look great and glitzy on the prospectus but nothing compares to having a visit and feeling the vibe for yourself.

We also hold applicant days later in the academic year, for if you’ve already applied but would like to visit before making a decision or arrive in what could be your home for the next four – or more – years!
