On Saturday 9th September, West Ward Works opened its doors to nerds for THIS Fest: A celebration of games. With everything from a free to play arcade and anime screenings, to talks from industry professionals and comic workshops, there was something for everyone. On Saturday, the second floor of the building was occupied by a range of vendors and cosplayers attending the second installment of Dundee’s infamous DeeCon, the convention that raises funds for the DJCAD Degree Show. Entry to THIS Fest included entry to DeeCon, which brought with it a cosplay masquerade and vendors from across the country. The first floor was home to a free to play arcade fitted out with classic retro games, and an entire floor of Indie games to get a taster of. There was no need to leave the venue, as on the ground floor you would find a range of food stalls and a fully stocked bar. The timing of the event was particularly auspicious, landing at the very end of Fresher’s Week.
