Are You Coming to Study at The University of Dundee? Here’s Everything You’ve Got To Look Forward To…

The University of Dundee is one of the country’s leading universities and is internationally recognised for its expertise in a whole range of academic fields from dentistry to engineering to medicine to art.

But while Dundee might be a great University to study at, it’s also a great place to be a student! Just look at the top quality student experience awards Dundee has bagged over the years!

But why is The University of Dundee such a great place to study at you may ask? Well, here are all of the things you can look forward to if you are coming to Dundee in September!

The Financial Benefits

Dundee is the cheapest city to study in. I repeat. DUNDEE IS THE CHEAPEST CITY TO STUDY IN. This is a fact.

In a survey conducted by NatWest, Dundee has been voted the most cost-effective place to study in the whole of Scotland TWICE!

So, if you are coming to Dundee this September , you can look forward to putting less of your SAAS towards rent and more of it towards takeaways!

Dundee is the Sunniest City in Scotland

No, i’m not even kidding, Dundee has officially been declared to have more hours of sunshine than any other city in Scotland.

I can attest to this. I live in the South West of Scotland and i can’t leave the house here without a rain jacket. Whereas when I’m in Dundee, I barely ever need to wear a waterproof, just a light jacket!

You Can Join a Fab Society

In the International Student Barometer (2019), The University of Dundee was placed number one globally for ‘University Clubs and Societies’! And it’s no wonder why! Dundee has over 250 societies on offer for students to join!

Have you ever fancied the chance to tread the boards? How about learning to ride a horse? Or even just to watch Shrek with a group of people just as obsessed with the ogre as yourself! Then there’s a society at Dundee suited to you!

Many societies are also affiliated with academic subjects like History or Film so you might even get some studying in there too! I mean, that’s why you’re going to University, right?

An Award Winning Student Union

What more could you want as a student? Dundee University Students’ Association (DUSA), better known to us students as simply ‘the Union’ has received many accolades over the years including being voted the number one student union for nightlife out of the WHOLE UK in 2012!

Located right at the heart of the campus, the Union really is the central hub of the University. Needing a wee sit down? Head to the Union. Meeting a friend for coffee? Meet them at the Union. Looking for a wee boogie? The Union – Floor 5 specifically – is the best place to be.

While we may have not been able to use it to its full potential this year, here’s hoping things might be better for your arrival in September!

The Compact City Campus

Now, this is a huge plus for me. As the University is located right in the centre of the city, everything is only a 5 minute walk away! Needing to nip to the shops? Then do not fret! All of your favourite supermarkets are within walking distance! So are all the best bars, restaurants and shops! For someone from a small town, the Overgate shopping centre is heaven.

If you are interested in experiencing some of the cultural aspects of Dundee, you also don’t have to stray far afield! On the way into the City centre from campus you will pass the Rep Theatre which puts on shows throughout the whole year! Just a hop, skip and a jump away from the train station you can find Dundee’s Science Centre, the RRS discovery, and the brand new V&A museum! (which is also free to visit might I add!)

Sports and Exercise

Are you a total gym bunny? Then you’ll love Dundee! Located on our very campus is The Institute of Sport and Exercise (ISE). This is a state-of-the-art gym facility with a personal training room, squash courts, a dance studio and even a swimming pool! And you can guarantee it runs all of your favorite exercise classes too!

While I must admit that I’ve only entered the building once which was for an exam, I have a lot of sporty friends who love spending time there! If you are a more active person than me, it’s definitely worth taking out a membership!
