Another year, another lockdown…and not much has changed. We’re all stuck at home with no responsibilities other than uni work but sometimes we’ve got to take a break. So here I am revealing what shows I’ve been watching when I’m procrastinating.
Tiger King
This is a wee throw back to the first Lockdown and I bet you watched it too. It was a global phenomenon! But if you’ve not, here’s the lowdown: Tiger King is an 8 part docu-series which follows rival big cat breeders Joe Exotic and Carol Baskin. I don’t want to give much away but things take a dark turn when Joe is caught up in a murder-for-hire plot.
Upload
Upload was a new series in 2020 which premiered on the first of May and was renewed for a second season only 7 days later! So you know it’s good! The year is 2033 and humans are able to “upload” themselves into a virtual afterlife (if they have the cash that is). Again, I don’t want to spoil anything about the plot but if you like sci-fi mixed in with a bit of romance this is totally one for you!
Gilmore Girls
Now this is an old classic. I feel Lockdown has made a lot of us nostalgic. It’s a feel good comedy series about a mother and daughter in the town of Stars Hollow. The first couple of seasons are for sure the best ones and it teeters as it goes on but you’ll want to keep watching all seven seasons (and the four part revival set 9 years later) to find out what happens to all your favourites.
Scream Queens
Now, I’m only going to say this once: season one is a masterpiece, season two is not worth your time. Scream Queens, which obviously takes inspiration from the scream queen films of the 70s and 80s, follows a group of sorority sisters who are being terrorised by a serial killer. Featuring an all star cast which includes: Emma Roberts, Joe Jonas, Ariana Grande and even the OG scream queen herself, Jamie Lee Curtis as the University Dean. It’s very much a black comedy fused with satire so it never takes itself seriously.
RuPaul’s Drag Race (UK/US)
Saving the best for last, the last on my binge list is RuPaul’s Drag Race. And I’ll tell you, there’s plenty to binge. Over the pandemic, 5 seasons of drag race have been produced globally! But if you’re looking for a good season to start with, I’d recommend season 2 of RuPaul’s Drag Race UK, not only for the dramatic twists and turns of this season, but also to support local drag performer Ellie Diamond who has been killing the season so far!
