1. The Liar
The Liar is located on the first floor of DUSA, offering a range of drinks, snacks, and entertainment options.
During the day, the venue is a quiet space where students and visitors alike can enjoy a fresh cup of coffee, meet friends or colleagues, and sit down comfortably to study or work. My favourite thing about The Liar is that on student nights out, it transforms into a nightclub that offers great DJ entertainment and provides a safe space for students to meet new friends, have fun and take a well-deserved break from our studies.
2. Air Bar
Air is a great bar and nightclub located on the top floor of DUSA. It benefits from all the features that The Liar has, with the addition of a large dance floor and a stage for live performances and DJ sets.
In addition to its nightlife offerings, Air also hosts a variety of events throughout the academic year, such as live music performances, comedy nights, quiz nights and my favourite, karaoke nights. In addition, it is a popular venue for student societies and sports teams to hold events and celebrations like ceilidhs and alumni parties.
3. Top Of The Tower Café
The Tower Café is a popular café located on the top floor of the University of Dundee’s Tower Building. It offers a range of food and drink options, including sandwiches, soups, salads, hot and cold drinks, and a variety of snacks and baked goods. The café also offers vegetarian and vegan options.
In addition to its food and drink offerings, the Tower Café is known for its stunning views of the city of Dundee and the River Tay. Its location on the top floor of the Tower Building, which is one of the tallest buildings in Dundee, provides panoramic views of the surrounding area which is my favourite thing about the venue.
The Tower Café is open to both students and members of the public, and is a popular spot for studying, socialising, and enjoying a meal or coffee with a view.
4. Geddes Quadrangle
The Geddes Quadrangle is a historic and picturesque quadrangle located at the heart of the University of Dundee’s main campus. It was originally part of the university’s old college building, which was constructed in the 19th century. Today, the quadrangle is a tranquil outdoor space that is popular with students, staff, and visitors alike.
The Geddes Quadrangle is known for its impressive architecture, including the stunning Gothic Revival-style façade of the old college building. It is also home to several notable features, such as the sundial located in the centre of the quadrangle. This is one of my favourite locations on campus because it is the perfect spot for photography and filming, thanks to its historic charm and scenic surroundings.
5. Teya Rewards
Teya Rewards is a payment app that is designed to make it easier and more convenient to pay for everyday items such as coffee, food, and groceries across shops, cafes and bars located on campus. With Teya Rewards, students can make payments using their mobile phones, eliminating the need to carry cash or cards.
In addition to making payments, Teya Rewards also offers a range of other features, including the ability to earn rewards and loyalty points for every purchase made using the app. These rewards include, free fries, soups, burgers, and non-alcoholic drinks, all which can be collected at The Liar. In addition, the app keeps track of your on-campus coffee purchases and rewards you with a free coffee on your 10th purchase.
6. University of Dundee Merch
The University of Dundee has an incredible range of merch that can be purchased online or at the Premier shop located on campus. The merch features our logo and other designs that showcase the university’s heritage, culture, and achievements. Some of the popular items available at the store include notebooks, bottles, and t-shirts (in many different colours).
Additionally, a range of sports merch featuring the university logo, colours and the Sports Union’s iconic penguin logo can be purchased on the PSL website. Its range of comfortable underlayers, hoodies, fleeces, hats, and more will help to prepare students to practice their favourite sport in any weather condition.

7. Scrymgeour Study Space
The Scrymgeour study space offers individual study space, group study areas and open-plan spaces with desk and chair set-ups. Also, the building provides access to computers, printers and other resources required for academic work.
This is one of my favourite study spaces because it benefits from being less used in comparison to the main library and is an excellent alternative when I need a change of scenery.
8. Postgraduate Study Space
The postgraduate study space is located at the University’s Main Library on the first floor and is dedicated for students enrolled on postgraduate courses. Similarly to the Scrymgeour study space, this area is usually less busy in comparison to other areas of the library. My favourite thing about this area is that it benefits from ample individual study spaces, where postgraduate students can focus on their individual assignments.
9. Food and Drink preparation facilities at the Main Library
The University’s Main Library benefits from a range of designated areas that students, staff, and visitors alike can utilise to prepare their own food and drinks. These areas are equipped with kettles and microwaves that are free to use, meaning that students can enjoy a warm meal without having to spend any extra money.
10. Institute of Sports and Exercise
The Institute of Sports and Exercise (ISE) is a state-of-the-art sports facility that provides a range of services and programs for students, staff, and the wider community.
The ISE offers a variety of facilities for sports and exercise, including 2 large sports halls, a fitness suite with cardio and strength equipment, 3 squash courts and a swimming pool and sauna. Also, the facility benefits from outdoor facilities, including a football pitch and 3 tennis courts.
In addition to the facilities, the ISE offers a range of sports and exercise programs and services, including fitness classes, personal training, and sports society memberships. Students who matriculate with sports clubs can also compete in their sport against other universities in the BUCS and national leagues. This is one of my favourite facilities on campus because it provides me with a space to develop my passion for volleyball and de-stress after a long day of studying, working on assignments and attending lectures.
