How we use your information
The University of Dundee (‘the University’) collects and processes your information further to your application and participation as a Student Blogger.
The University requires your information initially for the purpose of evaluating your suitability to be a Student Blogger. If you are successful it will be used for the administration of this position. We will contact you regarding these purposes using your University email address. We normally retain your personal information until the conclusion of your role as a Student Blogger.
Once you start to write for the student blog your posts may contain personal or special categories of personal data. Such posts are written at your own discretion. The University does not require you to include this data. Your Blog posts will be on the University’s website indefinitely, further to the terms of the consent form. The University will consider removing or editing posts upon your request.
The personal data requested by the application form will normally comprise your name, age, gender, home country, University email address and what course you are studying.
At your own discretion, you may disclose your own personal data in your blog posts.
Special categories of personal data
We do not routinely hold special categories of personal data for the purposes described above. However, we may have such information if you provide it to us directly, for example so we can make appropriate adjustments for a disability.
At your own discretion, you may disclose your own sensitive personal data in your blog posts.
The University of Dundee is the data controller for the information it collects about you.
We maintain lists of participants and their contact details and email people directly via Microsoft Office 365. This product is cloud-based. Microsoft have adopted ‘binding corporate rules’ amongst other measures to safeguard data in their systems.
The University is the data controller for the blog posts that you publish on the website and which are further to the terms of the consent form.
The University asserts that it is lawful for it to process your personal data for the purposes detailed above for the performance of a contract to which you are party or in order to take steps at your request prior to entering into a contract.
The University may also process your personal data in this area in compliance with legal obligations to which it is subject.
Where you provide the University with special categories of personal data, for example so we can make adjustments for disabilities, that processing is further to obligations placed upon the University in the field of social protection law.
Where you choose to include sensitive categories of personal data in a post, the processing of this will be lawful as it is data which is manifestly made public by you as the data subject.
The University respects your rights and preferences in relation to your data. If you wish to update, access, erase, or limit the use of your information let us know by emailing email@example.com. If you would like to withdraw from your participation as a Student Blogger you can do so by emailing us at the same address.
If you wish to complain about the University’s use of your information please contact the University’s Data Protection Officer in the first instance by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org. You may also wish to contact the Information Commissioner’s Office.
