How much do you give away of yourself in your writing?

That is the question. Especially when dealing with other people, I find it is a struggle to put the “right amount” of myself in my writing. Not enough is mechanical and boring, too much is too revealing.

I am in a writing class with some wonderful people, but I’m always nervous to send in some of my more personal pieces. There are aspects of myself I don’t work workshopped, edited or refined, they’re just me.

It’s like chopping off your arm and watching it be scrutinized finger by finger, vein by vein.
