1 – Unique soothing landscape.

In the hustle and bustle of everyday life it is important we find a little bit of time for ourselves. Whether relaxing with a book or taking a long walk, the University of Dundee Botanic Garden is the perfect location, it’s a hidden gem located in the West End of the city. The easy to follow footpath around the garden has benches located in perfect spots for viewing the River Tay and over to Fife. Most importantly it’s very quiet…shhh!

2 – We have red squirrels.

The lovely red squirrels have majorly decreased in population in the UK. It’s estimated that there are only 160,000 remaining, 75% of which are in Scotland. We’re proud to say that we provide a habitat for a small percentage of them. Yes that’s right, we have red squirrels living in the city of Dundee, how amazing! Summer into autumn is the best time to spot them, particularly in the morning or early evening when they are on the hunt for conifer cones to nibble at.

3 – Wide range of unusual plants.

There is certainly no shortage of shrubbery and greenery, it’s a whirl wind of plants. Around every corner there is something different. The garden features exotic plants, native plants and more species of conifers than you could ever imagine. On special occasions the garden hosts a range of festive plants and gifts. If you love exploring and learning something new, the Garden is the place for you.

4 – It’s a miniature Scottish Highlands.

Always wanted to take that trip up north to Inverness or Aviemore but thought it’s a bit too far? Look no further than your doorstep. We have everything the Highlands has offer. Bring your picnic and park up for the day without having to stress about that three-hour drive home and if it’s cold we have a coffee shop providing yummy hot food.

5 – Unique art gallery with interesting exhibitions.

The visitor centre at the Garden has an ever-changing range of exhibitions. It is also available to buy if something takes your fancy, there is always a member of staff on hand. We have work from artists such as Taywood, Spectra Textiles and many more. The exhibitions rotate monthly and there is something all year round. More information can be found on our website.

6 – Coffee shop.

We’ve a fabulous coffee shop on-site. It provides a great cuppa and delicious lunches, something for all the family to stick their teeth into. There’s a wide range of cakes, scones and sponges, be sure to check the Facebook page to see what’s in store that day. Outside the shop there are unique garden knick-knacks for sale.
